Living in the Halls of Residence

What is it like living in the Halls of Residence?

The quality of acommodation varies from university to university, but generally the halls of residence is a good starting point to being independant and living on your own.

You’ll usually have your own room with single bed, washbasin and desk. There will be shared toilets, shower rooms and kitchens. Some universities allow you to upgrade and have an en suite room or share a flat within the halls, but this depends on the facilities they have to offer.

If you are moving to a new city to study the halls is probably a good place to begin your uni life and meet new people in similar circumstances as yourself.

On occasions, it can be a little rowdy with students partying or coming in late from a night out but this is to be expected and there are wardens available to help you out. They are contactable via telephone and sometimes patrol the accommodation blocks for security and safety.

Although halls are the first option for accommodation on most occasions, don’t rule out living in a shared flat outside of the university. Sometimes, it can work out cheaper and provide better conditions.
