Catering for a niche is something that doesn’t happen often in the capital, but Opium Nightclub defys all and does just that. The only rock venue in Edinburgh, Opium plays it loud and heavy.

Located in the Cowgate, part of the Old Town, Opium is a grungey venue blasting a mixture of hard rock, goth and metal throughout the two floors. open 7 nights a week, Opium is a popular choice with the young, influential youth of today.

Expect it to be busy, and whilst there are two floors the club does get packed, especially on weekends. There is plenty of seats on the lower floor, as well as a snooker table and some puggy machines. Upstairs has a second bar, more seats and a small dance floor that becomes a mosh pit as the night progresses.

What sets Opium apart from all other venues in Edinburgh is the free entry. Couple with cheap drinks deals, Opium is a cheap night out. What this venue lacks in dancefloor space, it certainly makes up in price.
