Chances are, if you’ve been to Shanghai Club in Edinburgh, you won’t want to go anywhere else again. Set in the incredible Le Monde Hotel, Shanghai Club is an intimate little secret in the heart of Edinburgh, and a club that appeals to Edinburgh locals, tourists and students alike. Open 7 nights until 3am, sometimes costing £6 flat entry, the club boasts 6 seperate club nights with different forms and styles of entertainment.

The Shanghai Club is the icing in Le Mondes cake, which also includes 3 bars, the appropriately named Vienna, Paris and Milan. These bars serve as an opener to Shanghai, being open during the day, and allowing both nightclub regulars and hotel guests to sample some lavish cocktails and affordable beer in a peaceful enviornment. Its a great place to start the night and arrange a meetup before the revels of the club ensue.
Once you’ve made your way to Shanghai though, you won’t want to go back, and customs go easy on you so you don’t always need a passport for the trip. A more mature crowd, if thats what you seek, means you can relax in an atmosphere of fun and responsibility.

Lavish sets and leather seats mix with marble walls to make Shanghai a really unique place, and if not a regular attraction with students, then certainly one for that special occassion. Drinks promotions mean bottles are regularly £1.50 alongside shots, with a special 2 for £6 on cocktails available on Mondays, while a selection of DJs mix and scratch on the venues 13 plasma screens.

Monday: Forbidden
Something rather special on Monday nights, with VDJ Scott Grainger, a DJ who uses scratch mixing on music videos and film reels. Grainger will mix music with vision on one of the clubs 13 plasma flatscreens and will never give you the same show twice. Admission is £5 (£4 Guest List) and on top of the normal drinks promos, which include bottles and shots at £1.50, students recieve an extra 33% off!

Wednesday: Chairman Meow
With a £4 flat entry and 2 for 1 on selected cocktails, Chairman Meow boasts the best student party night in Edinburgh, with RnB mixed with karaoke and really stupid games. Try your hand at pints for £2 and shooters for £1.50 as well as many other great promotions to keep you rocking well into the early hours of Thursday morning. And if thats not enough, DJs Calverto, Babes and Harry Ainsworth are there to help you along.

Sunday: Shake
Electro, funk and house anthems aside, DJ Leon Easter brings us a pretty special hands in the air night on Sunday to get you grooving all weekend. With entry as low as £2, provided your on the guest list, and shots from £1.50 its a pretty special night. Backed up with live sax, and remember I said sax, and thats first in a nightclub I’m sure, percussion is also live and full to help you wind away whats left of the weekend into Monday.

Shanghai Club may not be for everyone, and students may find it more lavish or expensive then the rest of the selection in Edinburgh, but you can be assured of a great night out and some really good memories within.
