The Tunnel Nightclub Glasgow
A long and rich history, the Tunnel first opened its doors in 1990, and since then names the likes of Pete Thong, Roger Sanchez and Paul Oakenfold have played DJ sets to keep revellers raving until the early hours of the morning. Not content with showcasing the latest urban and dance talent, the site has also played host to several live artists, including Llyod Banks during the recent 50 Cent aftershow party.
Service, compared to other bars, can be a little slower. This is mostly because on any given night the Tunnel can be full to the brim. Its not suprising considering the club currently only opens on average 3 nights a week (Wed, Fri and Sat) and is a popular destination on all of them. If you arrive after 11pm you can expect to queue, especially on Fri and Sat, and while entry fee is not free it won’t put you too much out of pocket.

The Tunnel is split into two rooms, although there is not much difference in musical tastes between, and you’re unlikely to find a seat in one if you cannot find a seat in another. On Fri and Sat night the 2nd room is a dedicated “house room” and this means unless your the most hardcore of fans you won’t get inside. However, with friendly staff and upbeat music wherever you are, you are unlikely to complain.
For the average student, prices are kept low, with drinks usually starting at £1.50 on promotional nights. Unlike its sister clubs the Cathouse and the Garage, the Tunnel plays mostly Hip Hop, RnB, electronica and Dance and rarely ventures into other territory. While this may no doubt cause problems with those of a harder and heavier musical nature, its a club of refined (or at least restricted) taste. Being moments away from Central Station in Glasgow the club also attracts most out of towners, who come for its world class DJs, and amazing atmosphere.

Wednesday: Allure
The cheapest entry you’ll find at the club, £3 all night, but sadly no promotions on drinks. DJ Darren supplys a styling of bass, RnB, Hip Hop, Rap and Dance to help you break up the working week.
Friday: United Nations of Dance
Doors at 11pm every Friday, with entry £4 (with flyer) and £6 standard, UNOD promises the best in mainstream dance, house, electro and DJ’ing with a variety of names from week to week soon to become a who’s who of the music world.
Saturday: Tunnel Saturdays
Tunnel Saturdays are a combination of both rooms, with Hip Hop and RnB in the 1st and Techo and Dance in the 2nd, with a little bit of scratch thrown in for good measure. While selected drinks are just £2 only the most committed are willing to pay the £10 entry fee (this flat fee can not be avoided) but such is the draw of the club it seems to make little difference. The VIP room also opens every Saturday, for one night a week, with the musicial stylings of Geddes.
While the Tunnel is expensive, and in some cases overpriced (for both students and graduates), it is certainly well worth a visit every now and again. If you are a fan of Dance you will find a friend for life and while you might not be able to escape an entry fee you still might make it into the VIP area on Tunnel Saturdays.
