Student Accommodation in Brighton

Just an hour away from London by train, Brighton is a city that is trendy and yet retains its seaside town look. Students moving here to study won’t be disappointed as the city has bars, pubs, restaurants, shopping complexes, sports and fabulous pebbled beaches. The city is also pretty tolerant of alternative sub cultures and the gay scene is well established here.

The University of Brighton is well known for its vocational and professional courses and is spread out in three large campuses. The city is safe, culturally inclined, scenic and lively city to live in. Accommodations aren’t too expensive and the University provides guaranteed housing to its first year students. The University of Brighton accommodates about 1900 students in its Halls and absorbs 300 more through its affiliations.

The Halls of residence are split into four locations in Brighton and the fifth one is located at Eastbourne itself. The Brighton based students get accommodated in Falmer, Grand Parade, Varley and Moulsecoomb while for the Eastbourne students there is only one Hall of residence. Each of these Halls offers single rooms, En-suite and flats to accommodate all kinds of students. All the Halls are mixed sex and typically offer both catered and self catered options. The rent ranges from £3500 to £4900 annually depending on the type of rooms you select.

The Halls of residence are well connected to their campuses either due to their proximity or due to the efficient bus and train services available in the city. The Falmer and the Eastbourne boast of excellent sports facilities that include tennis courts, swimming pools and golf courses. If you do not want to live in the Halls, there are plenty of private options like houses, flat shares, bed-sits and rooms in private houses available in the city.

Living on your own is true independence where you can choose your own living area, your flatmates and the type of accommodation that’s comfortable to you. The average rent in most areas is around £79 per week.

University managed housing too is a good option for students who want to live independently without worrying about the kind of landlord they will get. The housing is available in Brighton, Hove and Eastbourne and located close to the Universities. The housing includes flats that can accommodate between 1-6 students and there is an upfront deposit of £350. Contracts are for joint tenancy, usually for 42-48 weeks and the rent has to be paid directly to the University.

For returning students or for the ones who come down early to look for accommodations, one has an option to stay on a nightly basis at Moulsecoomb Place halls of residence for a short duration. You can contact the conference office for more details or log on to the University’s website for more information on the same.
