Student Accommodation in Nottingham

Nottingham is a great place to study and live in as it has been voted the best city in UK to live in. The place is price friendly and harmless and since both the universities are top-notch, there is huge student influx that needs to get accommodated in the city. The student accommodation here is quite typical with the Uni’s offering Halls of residence to its Freshers’ and providing the facility to rent the private sector Halls affiliated to the Uni’s. Other accommodations preferred by the students are House share, bed-sits and private flats or apartments.

The University of Nottingham and the Nottingham Trent Uni offer accommodation to all their undergraduates and also have a selection of accommodation to suit the post graduates studying here. The Halls of residence are available as both catered and self catered halls with a variety of room types to choose from. Some of the halls are university owned while the rest of them are managed by the UPP. The University also provides accommodation to students with special needs.

The catered Halls of residence are located in the 330 acre University Park and Jubilee campus and are just a few minutes walk from where the classes are held. There are 12 Halls here which provide three meals a day seven days a week and are served at fixed timings. Pantry facilities are available for you to make hot drinks and snacks. All Halls have single or double rooms which either come with shared facilities or are ensuite.

The contract length here is for 31 weeks and the students have to vacate the premises during the holidays. These are also inclusive of laundry, internet and room cleaning facilities. The room charges vary from £3138 - £5107 depending on the size of the rooms and bathroom facility. These are available only to undergraduate freshers and returning students.

The self catered Halls are about 15 minutes walk from the University and have flats with typically 5-6 bedrooms which are fully furnished and offer different room types. Here the contract length starts from 43 weeks and go up to 51 weeks and is inclusive of holidays. This accommodation is available to post graduate students too. There are seven properties to choose from and the rates range from £4000- £6500 depending on the duration of stay and the room types.

Though the University provided lodgings are reasonably priced and a great way to make friends, yet the ambiance isn’t as clean as we’d like to be and the time bound activities can make people quite quirky. However here you don’t have to worry about your utility bills so enjoy while it lasts.

Private accommodation, on the other hand, offer more independent living. Sharing a house with other chosen mates can be quite a blast provided you can cook and clean regularly. However you need to look at all your mounting bills and pay them in time.  For private accommodation the areas of Lenton, Dunkirk, Radford and Beeston are extremely popular among the students due the proximity to the city centre. All these areas have pubs, restaurants and sports facilities close by so are convenient for the students to live in.

“Unite” provide private accommodation to the students and can set you back by £85 per week but they have good accommodation near Lenton. The Manor Village complex near the universities offers houses and rooms from 1 bedroom flats to 6 bedroom flats and their charges are from £87 ppw onwards in the Lenton area.  The Unipol too works both with the students and landlords to provide good housing and has listed shared houses for Beeston and Dunkirk where rates start from £55 for per person on a weekly basis. You can also go through many websites where agents offer their services or even take the help of your University to find the right property for you in Nottingham.
