Student Accommodation in Sheffield
Sheffield is one of the greenest cities in Britain and its claim to fame is its hills, six rivers and of course the two top Universities. It is also known as the University City as 50,000 students flock to the metropolis every year to take up one of the vast courses on offer. Student housing is available readily and nightlife is quite happening with numerous places to go pub crawling. Since it is a compact city, most of the places are quite close to each other and bus service is frequent.
The University of Sheffield offers housing to first year students as well as returning students and mature students with or without families. Rooms for people who need to use wheelchairs are also provided. Most of the Halls of residence have both catered and self catered options but the Uni also provides eatwithUS prepaid food cards that can be used in all the eatwithUS outlets in and around the University.
Typically the rooms on offer are single rooms, En- suite and large single rooms that can be converted to double occupancy. The Endcliffe Village is situated in a woodsy area, provides catered accommodation and is just ten minutes away from the campus as well as the city centre by bus. The village has rents starting from £98 which goes up as high as £122 per week. Contracts are for 42 weeks and the meals provided are for 31 weeks. Stephenson provides catered accommodations for post graduates as well. Many of these accommodations offer double beds in the rooms.
In the self catered accommodations you will find converted Victorian houses as well as lodges and flats. One can go in for optional meal packages if you are not inclined to cooking. The rents here are from £3200 - £4500 depending on the accommodation type. However, self catered accommodations are preferred by students who don’t like to be time bound and prefer to do their own cooking so a kitchenette is also provided along. These come with coin operated laundrettes as well.
The Hunters Bar area near the Sheffield Hallam University is the main hub of student’s stay in the city. Besides its own Halls of residence, the area is infested with 2nd and 3rd year students who prefer to stay close to the city center where all the action happens. Spar is open round the clock to fulfil the grocery needs and there are enough restaurants and drinking joints to keep the students awake through out the night. The botanical garden nearby adds to the idyllic beauty of the place. From large student houses with sit outs and flat shares, you will find one to suit your tastes. You can get great shared accommodations for as low as £50 a week.
The City center with its noisy night life and the Grand central is preferred by the students who like to party hard. Libraries and pub are close by; it is up to you to decide where you want to be seen around. Flat shares are very common here and once the students’ tire of the Halls living, it is the place they move to with their mates. Do not shift here if you like quite surroundings or stay on the top floors to avoid the noise and loud music.
Broomhill is a little far away from the city center but is definitely cheaper than the other places. Students get attracted to this place due to the availability of cheap drinks and food here. However the area is well connected by buses that link them to both the Uni as well as the city centre. The forge at Boston Street and the Central quay are other good student accommodations from Unite and cost upwards of £90 per week and you can get studio apartments for yourself.
